Christians often believe that the Antichrist will rise to power and persecute them for their faith. This belief stems from a persecution complex. However, more often than not, it is Christians who gain access to governmental systems, securing authority to push discriminatory views and distort facts to fit their own doctrines and religious worldviews—something we’ve seen increasingly in the United States in recent years.
Such behaviours are common in religious frameworks that are fixated on their own ideologies. In contrast, a contemplative religion focuses on questioning, exploring, and seeking understanding, rather than drawing definitive conclusions or insisting it holds all the answers.
The reality is that, in the last days, Christians may very well become the persecutors—targeting and bullying those who are true followers of Christ, even if they do not identify as Christians, simply because they refuse to conform to mainstream religious dogmas. This situation mirrors what occurred 2,000 years ago when the religious elite—specifically the Pharisees (similar to modern church leaders) and scribes (theologians)—opposed and sought to overthrow Jesus.
Their resistance came from the introduction of new insights that challenged and contradicted their established religious frameworks and ideologies.
